Food We Eat (Class- III) TWAU

Food We Eat — Important Notes (Class III )

What is food

  • Food gives us energy to work, grow and stay healthy.
  • Food becomes a part of our body and helps us to move, think and fight illness.

Where food comes from

  • Plants: cereals (wheat, rice), fruits, vegetables, spices, oilseeds.
  • Animals: milk, eggs, meat, fish.
  • Shops and markets sell food we or others grow and make.

Types of food (simple groups)

  • Cereals and grains — rice, wheat, maize (give energy).
  • Pulses and proteins — dal, beans, peas, eggs, meat (help build body).
  • Fruits and vegetables — provide vitamins and minerals (keep us healthy).
  • Milk and milk products — milk, curd, paneer (good for bones).
  • Fats and oils — help store energy (use in small amounts).
  • Sugar and sweets — give quick energy but eat less.

Balanced diet (what it means)

  • A balanced diet has food from different groups in right amounts.
  • It keeps body strong, helps growth, and prevents illness.
  • Example: roti/rice + dal (protein) + vegetable + salad/fruit + milk.

Why water is important

  • We should drink enough water every day.
  • Water keeps our body cool, helps digestion, and removes waste.

Seasonal and local food

  • Eating seasonal fruits and vegetables is healthy and fresh.
  • Local food is often cheaper and good for the community.

Healthy habits while eating

  • Wash hands before eating.
  • Eat fresh, clean food.
  • Avoid too many fried and junk foods.
  • Eat meals at regular times and do not waste food.

Why do we need to eat healthy food?

Ans:- We need to eat healthy food so our body gets energy to play and study. Healthy food helps us grow taller and stronger.

Which foods above do you think should be part of a balanced diet?

Make a list of fruits and vegetables available and special food items that are prepared in the summer and in the winter.

How often do you drink water?

I drink water many times a day to stay healthy and active.

  • After waking up — one glass to freshen up.
  • Before meals — one small glass to help digestion.
  • During the day — every 1–2 hours, especially when playing or studying.
  • While playing or exercising — sip water often to avoid thirst.
  • Before sleep — a small cup so I don’t wake up thirsty.

Recommended for kids: about 6–8 glasses a day depending on activity and weather.

Where does food come from?

From plants

  • Fruits and vegetables grow on trees, plants, and vines.
  • Grains like rice, wheat, and maize grow in fields.
  • Pulses and nuts come from plants and trees.
Plants give us many kinds of food and are the first source for most of what we eat.

From animals

  • Milk, curd, paneer come from cows, buffaloes, goats.
  • Eggs come from birds like hens.
  • Meat and fish come from animals and fish.
