  Food We Eat — Important Notes (Class III ) What is food Food gives us energy to work, grow and stay healthy. Food becomes a part of our body and helps us to move, think and fight illness. Where food comes from Plants: cereals (wheat, rice), fruits, vegetables, spices, oilseeds. Animals: milk, eggs, meat, fish. Shops and markets sell food we or others grow and make. Types of food (simple groups) Cereals and grains — rice, wheat, maize (give energy). Pulses and proteins — dal, beans, peas, eggs, meat (help build body). Fruits and vegetables — provide vitamins and minerals (keep us healthy). Milk and milk products — milk, curd, paneer (good for bones). Fats and oils — help store energy (use in small amounts). Sugar and sweets — give quick energy but eat less. Balanced diet (what it means) A balanced diet has food from different groups in right amounts.
